USMS has selected the Lake Placid Open Water Swim as the site of the 2005 2-mile cable national championship race! The 2-mile cable race consists of 4 laps around a 1/4-mile straightaway course such as we have in Mirror Lake and is the only open water race for which national records are kept. In addition, we have renamed the race in memory of Betsy Owens (The Betsy Owens Memorial Open Water Swim, or the "Betsy Swim" for short); the race was one of her favorites. Betsy was one of the race directors when it was a national championship in 1994. The proceeds from this year's race and in future years will go to Gilda's Room, the charity selected by her and her family for donations in her memory. It's a great race in a great location and we hope to see more of you there
next year! (For those of you who fear cold water, it was 81 degrees in 2003!
No wetsuit needed!) Check out the 2003
results and pictures! |
